Roger Ackling’s linienüberzogene Plastiken im ‘Hosentaschenformat’ , zu sehen in London ( Annely Juda fine art), in New York ( Von Lintel Gallery ),in Japan, Sydney, Madrid und nun in Berlin, - einmal gesehen -, sie werden überall auf der Welt sofort wiedererkannt, neu entdeckt. Roger Acklings’s Technik - er brennt Linie um Linie mit Hilfe der Sonne durch ein Brennglas von links nach rechts in Fundhölzer. Wiederkehrendes Erstaunen - wie im Kleinen, so im Großen.
Roger Ackling’s gravitätisch sich wiederholenden Linienauftritt liest man meditativ nach. Seine streng
aneinandergesetzten Linien sind nur auf den ersten Blick schnurgerade und ununterbrochen. Wolken, Vögel, Flugzeuge schränken die Brennkraft der eingefangenen Sonnenstrahlen streckenweise ein. Dieses Zeichnen Roger Ackling’s auf meist an der See gefundenen, vorgebrauchten Hölzern, die von
Sand und Salz gebleicht und geformt sind, wird zum umfassenden Spiel der Elemente.

‘...In front of Ackling`s classic works one of the traditional story openings comes
to mind: ‘A thousand years ago and now...’. They indeed have the look of something that
could have been made yesterday or in the far distant past - far distant in culture as well as in time.
Prehistoric works have a similar impenetrability. They may be of immense spiritual significance or they may be a game or a toy. Hidden far below tuh surface of Ackling’s salamandrine solar
dances of geometric astronomy is a mischievous spirit. He is like one of those zen masters wo asks an absurd question and then whacks you round the ear with a bamboo pole when you can’t answer it. This playful naughtiness comes to the fore in his most recent works.
